Glass Doors for Large Modern Fireplace with Marble Surround - Project #20821

Customer Comments: Glass doors. Black frame. Looking to keep it simple.

Our Comments: Here are some glass doors in black with simple clean lines. There are doors available with narrower frames, but due to the 1/4" discrepancy in the height measurement, I do not recommend them as there is almost no room for play.

Gas Log Warning: To prevent the burner and pilot mechanism from overheating causing safety issues, gas logs must be burned with glass doors open. The Modern-1 door is an exception to this rule as it can be made with a special Gas Log AirWash system that allows enough air into the fireplace to reduce overheating. Read more below.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium to High-End Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

The Ultimate Treatment

The treatment below features the Modern-1 glass door with the Grand Canyon Lava Series gas logs. Glass doors normally must be open when burning gas logs, to prevent the pilot mechanism from overheating and melting. These doors have a special Gas Log AirWash system that feeds enough cooling air into the fireplace minimize overheating and allow you to burn your gas logs with the doors closed.

The Lava Series Gas Logs from Grand Canyon are the only gas logs on the market that have burners cast inside the logs so some of flames come directly out of the logs themselves, just like real wood. If you are planning on replacing your gas logs, these are the most realistic gas logs I have seen and I highly recommend them.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
