Custom Fireplace Glass Doors with Side Vents for Zero Clearance Fireplace - Project #20783

Customer Comments: Hi Greg, I am sending you these pictures so you can do a mockup with some fireplace doors/grate heater on my fireplace. I am sending the 2 pictures you have requested and then some others to show some additional features. Specifically, the "vents" that are on the sides of my current fireplace. I am not really sure what these are for other than maybe to direct heat out of the fireplace into the room? I am sure you have seen it all so maybe you know and can also explain how these will work with the fireplace door or if they will just be covered up or what. I also have some additional questions:

1. I assume I can install this myself. There really isn't anyone in my area that does this kind of work so I am hoping so.
Yes, this is a very easy DIY task. It attaches to the black metal fireplace on the sides using pressure screws with no drilling required. I can walk you through it if you have questions, but it will take longer to upack the door than it will to attach it.

2. Do you sell the grate heater with the blower motor on the left side as well? The picture on the website shows it on the right.
Yes I do, but you cannot use the grate heater on a zero clearance fireplace, it will not fit into the small depth and it is not tested and listed for use with a heater.

3. As you will see I do not have a lot of real estate on the sides of the fireplace opening due to the mantle pillars so I assume the flush mount is probably better fit for my setup.
The door frame will be made to fit inside the stone opening as shown in the mockups.

4. From the examples on the website (Fireplace Doors with Blowers). I really like example 6 and 8. Can you tell me which ones those are?
I have used those two examples in the mockups below.

5. Can they also be made with the ceramic glass? They can be made with ceramic glass, but it will be of no value in your application since you should burn fires with the doors open on your prefab fireplace, which defeats the purpose of ceramic glass.

I am sure these are all answers we can work through after the mockups so I will also lean on your expertise as to which doors/setup might look and work best. Let me know if you need any more images

Thank you.

Our Comments: See inline above. Regarding the vents: You cannot block the vents. They are built into your prefab fireplace to provide cool air so the fireplace does not overheat and catch the framing on fire. The doors below are designed with vents on the side.

Glass Doors with Side Vents

These doors are specially designed with side vents to allow cool air into the fireplace and prevent overheating.

Doors with Airculator

These doors are specially designed to work with the Airculator heat exchanger. Although this heater is not designed or recommended for use with prefabricated fireplaces, I have created these mockups at your request. This is something that you would use at your own risk and could potentially negate your homeowners insurance if a fire resulted in the use of this setup.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
