Customer Comments: I'm looking for a solution for a corner fireplace. The fireplace opening currently has two doors installed at a right angle to one another—each 38" wide x 31" high. I'd like to reduce the size of the opening. So I have in mind a custom door with a fixed glass panel on one side. Could you please advise what you would recommend or are able to do for such a fireplace? Thank you.
Our Comments: We suggest using custom made corner fireplace fireplace door where glass meets glass at the corner. There are several models that can be made this way. We do not recommend having a fixed glass panel that large. Might as well have both sides functional as shown in the example below.
Fireplace Opening: 38" W (Each Side) x 31" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Option #1A: Design Specialties Stiletto Corner Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass.
Option #1B: Design Specialties Stiletto Corner Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
In order to have a single pane of glass, you must use pyro ceramic glass, which can handles sustained temperatures up to 1200F. Ceramic glass has rough edges, so it must be framed on all 4 sides.
Option #2: Iron Age-2 Corner Fireplace Door with Hammered Texture in Matte Black with Pyro Ceramic Glass. Bifold Doors on Left Side, Fixed Single Pane on Right.
Another way to reduce smoke is to reduce the height of the opening using a bar and mesh as a smoke guard. Adding mesh curtains allows you to burn wood or gas logs.
Option #3: Stone Manufacturing 8" Wide Corner Bar and Mesh/Smoke Guard in Flat Black. Shown with 24" Grand Canyon Lava Series Gas Logs. These are the most realistic gas logs on the market with burners inside the logs, so flames actually come out of the logs themselves.
Option #4: Stone Manufacturing 8" Wide Corner Bar and Mesh with Glass Smoke Guard in Flat Black.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
