Customer Comments: I’m looking for a simple flat rectangular steel mesh screen, approximately 46" wide × 30" high, in a dark iron or matte black finish. My fireplace opening is 42" wide. The stone ledge beneath the opening rises 6.5" above the hearth, so conventional rear feet would prevent the screen from sitting close to the stone. I saw the Stone Manufacturing 1P30M in Option #4 of your Project #20617, described as resting against the fireplace without rear stabilizers. Could you confirm whether that arrangement would work safely with my stone surround? Please provide a ballpark price for the simplest version, including shipping, and let me know what additional measurements you need. Thank you!
Our Comments: If you remove the rear feet, the screen will stand flat against the fireplace, but when set it aside to attend the fire, it will not stand on its own, you must lean it against something. This is not the most convenient option if you use the fireplace often. Below are some other options I recommend such as bowed screens and spark guards or attached mesh doors. Also, take note of where the gas valve cover is. It may be in the way of the single panel screens.
Fireplace Opening: 42" W x Unknown H
Option #1: Stone Manufacturing 1P30M Single Panel Fireplace Screen in Black with Angle Feet and Square Handles (Seamless Construction). This is the one you liked: Option #4 from Project #20617.
Option #2: Hearth Creations Single Panel Fireplace Screen in Black with Angle Feet and Square Handles (Has Seams). This is a less expensive alternative.
Option #3: Carolina Single Panel Fireplace Screen with Traditional Legs and Simplicity Handles in Vintage Iron.
Bowed screens and spark guards are a great alternative for firelaces raised in the wall. They stand on their own without the need for rear feet, making them more convenient to set aside when tending the fire.
Option #4: Hearth Creations Bowed Free Standing Screen with Hammered Texture in Charcoal.
Option #5: Stone Manufacturing Hand Forged Wrought Iron Bowed Fireplace Screen in Natural Iron.
Option #7: Stone Manufacturing Hand Forged Wrought Iron Bowed Spark Guard in Natural Iron.
Screen doors are an excellent choice because you simply open and close them to tend the fire.
Option #8: Hearth Creations Light Duty Formed Steel Fireplace Mesh Door with Easy Install No-Drill Pressure Mount Screws.
Option #9: Hand Crafted Heavy Duty Wrought Iron Grayson Fireplace Mesh Door with Easy Install No-Drill Pressure Mount Screws.
You provided the bottom height of 6.5" and the opening width of 42". What I need is the actual height of the stone opening "H"

Photo #1: With your camera sideways, take a picture directly in front of the fireplace from far enough away to see the entire fireplace floor to ceiling like this.
