Free Standing Glass Screens for Modern Fireplace - Project #21326

Customer Comments: Hello. We are hoping to see mock-ups and get quotes for a couple of glass fireplace screen options. The glass screen dimensions would be 43.5" wide and 24.5" tall. For the feet, we would like to see both the 4x4x2 square option and the 4x4x2 half round option. Ideally we would prefer no metal frame around the glass. For reference in the photo, the overall fireplace and wood storage dimensions (dark area) are 10' wide by 30 3/4" tall. The fireplace is in the center.

Our Comments: Here are examples of the glass screens you requested. I also included the 4x4x2 channel feet, which are on sale for Half Price from a factory clearance where I purchased the last of the inventory. There are a variety of glass options for this as listed below:

Standard Clear Glass: Has a ligt green hue and comes in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" tempered glass
Ultra-Clear Low-Iron (Starphire) Glass: Is perfectly clear but has a distinct acqua blue refraction on the edges. Available in 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" tempered glass
Ceramic Glass: Has a very light amber hue and comes in 3/16" thickness only. You must have this if you want to stand the screen in front of a wood fire. Read more below.

Warning: Free standing glass screens are generally considered as decorative only and should not be placed in front of a wood fire or ventless gas log. When used with vented gas logs, the screen should be set at least 8" in front of the fireplace opening to avoid overheating and shattering the glass. Ceramic glass must be used if you are burning real wood and should be set at least 6" in front of the opening.

Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures around 450F without shattering and should be at least 8" from the flames and used for vented gas logs only. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures around 1450F with direct flame contact. If you want the ability to stand the screen in front of a wood burning fire, you must have ceramic glass.
