Mesh Curtains and Glass Door Options for Wide Modern Fireplace - Project #21266

Customer Comments: Considering mesh curtains with a hidden track or very minimal glass doors.

Our Comments: Here are the mockups I promised as we discussed over the phone. Some of these glass doors can be burned with the doors closed if you have them made with ceramic glass and others cannot as indicated.

Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures around 450F without shattering and should be at least 8" from the flames. This is sufficient for closing the doors as the fire starts to die out to keep the heat in the home. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures around 1450F with direct flame contact. If you want the ability to burn continuous fires with the doors closed, you need ceramic glass.

Gas Log Warning: To prevent the burner and pilot mechanism from overheating causing safety issues, vented gas logs must be burned with glass doors open. The Modern-1 door is an exception to this rule as it can be made with a special Gas Log AirWash system that allows you to close the doors while burning a vented gas logs. Vent Free gas logs cannot have glass doors closed under any circumstances. Read more below.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle relatively high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is not as heavy duty and rugged as steel or wrought iron, but it is the most affordable.

Medium to High-End Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Flat Steel

High End Hand Sliding Doors

These doors are hand crafted from solid brass by skilled artisans at Stone Manufactring, the foremost high-end fireplace screen and door manufacturer in the USA. I selected these two doors because of their very unique minimal style. These are the closest you can get to what you requested when we spoke over the phone.
