Our Comments: Here are choices for fireplace mesh doors in black made from a variety of materials and price ranges, some more heavy duty than others. I noticed the grate inside the fireplace was upside down and I could not correct that, so I also included several high-end designer grates that are very heavy duty.
Fireplace Opening: 50" W x 38" H
Aluminum is the least expensive material for fireplace doors and would be considered light duty compared to the sturdier steel or wrought iron doors, particularly in sizes over 40 x 30. With that said, they are less than half the cost of the sturdier options below.
Option #1: Design Specialties Aluminum Brookfield Bifold Fireplace Door in Black with Tempered Glass and Mesh Curtains.
These doors are made from 3/16" thick solid steel, which is more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors.
Option #2: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Fireplace Glass Door in Matte Black with Standard Mesh.
Option #3: Stone Manufacturing HH-FL-M Hidden Hinge Steel Mesh Door in Black with Optional Heavy Gauge Mesh.
Option #4: Stone Manufacturing DF1M Heavy Duty Barrel Hinge Mesh Door with Pseudo Clearview Narrow Center Frames in Black with Optional Heavy Gauge Mesh.
Hand forged by a blacksmith from 1/4" thick solid wrought iron, these are the most heavy duty options of all.
Option #5: Hand Crafted Wrought Iron Fireplace Mesh Door in Burnished Black with Heavy Gauge Mesh.
Option #6: Stone Manufacturing WI-DF1M Heavy Duty Hand Forged Modern Style Wrought Iron Fireplace Door in Natural Iron with Heavy Gauge Mesh. Can also be made in black, but natural iron has more character.
