Mesh curtains are a very traditional fireplace treatment that is both functional and convenient to use. These high-end screens can be made with a typical curtain rod or a high-end "Track and Roller System" that always glides smoothly and does not bind over the years. You can have them made with just the top bar or top and bottom bar. The bottom bar helps prevent logs and ashes from rolling out of the fireplace onto the hearth. A Pet Deterrant Channel can be added to the bottom bar in some cases, to prevent the mesh from being pushed inwards, keeping pets and small children from going into the fireplace.

Option #2: Sliding Mesh Curtains with Top and Bottom Bar in Oil Rubbed Steel with Rivets. Shown with Heavy Duty Wrought Iron Grate with 1" Curled Bars and Half Price Closeout Special WI-AN10 Segovia Wrought Iron Andirons with Brass Tops.
Option #3: Sliding Mesh Curtains with Solid Brass Top Bar in Weathered Brass. Shown with Custom Modern Fireplace Grill/Grate.
The High-End I-Beam Track and Roller system is superior to the typical bar and mesh that uses a steel curtain rod. The I-Beam is made from rigid aluminum that does not sag or rust. The rollers do not bind like typical mesh curtains, and the mesh will never drag from a curtain rod that starts to sag over the years. Instead, the mesh curtains glide smoothly on their track with a silky-luxurious feel. This system also allows screens to be made for very large fireplaces, where a typical curtain rod will not work.
Note: The actual product might vary from the above picture depending on the screen you order, but the concept is the same when an I-Beam is used.
The Pet Deterrent Channel illustrated above helps prevent pets and small children from pushing the mesh inward and getting into the fireplace. This can be added to the F92 bottom bar, which also prevents logs from rolling out into the fireplace. When installing a bar and mesh, it is always a great idea to add the matching F92 bottom bar with the Pet Deterrent Channel.

Half Price Closeout Special WI-AN10 Segovia Wrought Iron Andirons | Natural Iron/Hand Polished | 23H | While Supplies Last | Natural Iron: If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.
