Customer Comments: Here's the fireplace dimensions: width front 42"; width rear 37"; depth 22"; height 28.2". Fireplace repair service installed a 4" smoke guard leaving an opening height of 24" However, as you discussed, we want an integrated mesh screen into your smoke guard. TY for providing this guidance.
Our Comments: Below are 2 mockups, the first showing just the 4" header with mesh curtains, the second complete with a bottom bar and accessories.
Fireplace Opening: 42" W (Front) x 37" W (Back) x 28.2(?)" H x 22" D. Smoke Guard is 4" wide.
These mesh curtains are availble with a standard graphite curtain rod or high end I-Beam track and roller system that always glides smoothly. The bottom bar helps keep logs and ashes from rolling out onto the hearth and can have a pet deterrent channel that prevents the mesh from being pushed inwards and deters pets and children from getting into the fireplace (See More Details Below).
Option #2: Stone Manufacturing C92 4" Smoke Guard Header and F92 Bottom Bar with Mesh Curtains in Black. Shown with 18003 Heavy Duty Black Iron Fireplace Tools and 29" Heavy Duty 3/4" Thick Black Bar Countoured Grate (Lifetime Warranty).
The High-End I-Beam Track and Roller system is superior to the typical bar and mesh that uses a steel curtain rod. The I-Beam is made from rigid aluminum that does not sag or rust. The rollers do not bind like typical mesh curtains, and the mesh will never drag from a curtain rod that starts to sag over the years. Instead, the mesh curtains glide smoothly on their track with a silky-luxurious feel. This system also allows screens to be made for very large fireplaces, where a typical curtain rod will not work.
Note: The actual product might vary from the above picture depending on the screen you order, but the concept is the same when an I-Beam is used.
The Pet Deterrent Channel illustrated above helps prevent pets and small children from pushing the mesh inward and getting into the fireplace. This can be added to the F92 bottom bar, which also prevents logs from rolling out into the fireplace. When installing a bar and mesh, it is always a great idea to add the matching F92 bottom bar with the Pet Deterrent Channel.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.

Photo #1: With your camera sideways, take a picture directly in front of the fireplace from far enough away to see the entire fireplace floor to ceiling like this.

Photo #2: With your back to the fireplace, take a picture looking straight out into the room so we can see the decor directly in front of the fireplace.
