Customer Comments: Please quote for Screen Door #7 (see Free Standing Fireplace Screens with Doors). 77” wide and 49” tall
Our Comments: The screen you selected is a free standing screen, which will be unstable and must be attached to the fireplace to prevent it from falling over when the doors are opened. I recommend you consider a mesh door that is designed to be bolted to the fireplace for a more functional secure application. With that said, the free standing screen can be made with clamps that allow it to be clamped to the lintel at the top of the fireplace. I will need a picture looking up at the lintel to see if that will work.
Fireplace Opening: 77" W x 49" H
Free standing screens with doors are a great alternative for smaller fireplaces. For larger fireplaces, this type of screen becomes very unstable. Fixed end panels are required to reduce the size of the doors and claps are provided to attach it to the lintel at the top of the opening to prevent it from falling over when the doors are opened. Attaching it to the fireplace defeats the purpose of the screen being "Free Standing", which is to be able to move it out of the way to easily clean the fireplace. With that said, attaching it to the fireplace does allow you to still use this type of screen to create a specific traditional look.
Option #1: Hearth Creations Extra Wide Free Standing Fireplace Screen with Doors with Fixed End Panels.
For fireplaces this large, I recommend doors that are attached to the fireplace. These are much sturdier, hand forged by a blacksmith from 1/4" thick solid wrought iron, with a frame that is securely bolted to the fireplace. Not only are these built to be used, they take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship and tasteful details. The forging process produces a unique texture that you cannot get with laser cut steel and is perfect for period style homes like yours.
Option #2: Hand Crafted Wrought Iron Cabinet Fireplace Mesh Door in Burnished Black with Fixed End Panels.
Option #3: Hand Crafted Wrought Iron Bifold Fireplace Mesh Door in Distressed Natural Iron with Mission/Craftsman Details.
One of the most attractive and functional treatments for large period style fireplaces like yours is a barn style roller door. This is a glass door that slides open to the left and right with gate mesh backup doors behind the glass.
Option #4: Hudson Roller Glass Door in Vintage Iron with Fixed End Panels and Gate Mesh Backup Doors. Shown with doors closed.
Sliding mesh curtains are also worth considering if the other options presented are outside the budget. These are made using a special I-Beam Track and Roller that will never sag and always slides smoothly. This is particularly important for large fireplaces where the mesh gets heavy.
Option #5: Stone Manufacturing C92 Surface Mount Mesh Curtains with Natural Iron Header and Matching F92 Bottom Bar.
