Customer Comments: Hey Greg, you did a mock up for me a different fireplace (Project #20989). Can you help me with this one? I want super simple and clean aluminum fireplace doors. It measures 27 3/4 by 32 1/2. Picture attached. Was looking at basic 3 and the stiletto doors with clear glass in black but let me know if you have r a different idea.
Our Comments: There are several companies that make doors similar to the Basic-3 and Stiletto. Some are more functional than others and the one you choose will depend on the functionality you desire. The basic doors are a lower end product that is not designed to be burned with the doors closed. The Stiletto is made with tempered glass and can be burned with the doors closed for average fires. The Pendleton looks almost idential to the stiletto, but can be made with ceramic glass that can handle hotter fires. I have included these and some other doors that will look great with this fireplace.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle temperatures up to about 1450F and can have direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass.
Fireplace Opening: 32 1/2" W x 27 3/4" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle relatively high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is not as heavy duty and rugged as steel or wrought iron, but it is the most affordable.

The standard Stiletto frame has a 1 5/8" projection in front of the fireplace. The door can be made with a Cutback frame is more flush at 5/16" deep. See Illustration Below.

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans from Solid Brass or Steel, depending on the finish that is desired. Very high end, and very refined. Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.
Option #5: Stone Manufacturing Minimal-1 Ultra Simple Cabinet Fireplace Glass Door in Black with Elegant 3/8" Thick Glass. Must be burned open.
Option #6: Stone Manufacturing DF1G-52 Solid Brass Fireplace Doors with Half Oval Casting Trim in Black with Tempered Glass. Must be burned open.
The Design Specialties Stiletto door has a normal frame thickness of 1 5/8", so it projects out with a box-like look. It can also be made with a "Cutback" frame that has a shallow 5/16" thick depth for a more custom flush appearance. The cutback frame should only be used with fireplaces that are perfectly square (within 1/16") due to the minimal overlap that is available.
The Basic-3 and Pendleton doors have a lower profile more similar to stiletto cutback.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.
