Customer Comments: Good morning. I am looking for a 60” gas log set that has large flames, generates heat, is remote operated, and resembles the realfyre g52 in Colonial Oak?
Our Comments: The Peterson G52 burner is only available in sizes up to 30". Once gas logs start getting larger than this, the flame height gets lower due to the amount of BTUs required to maintain a taller flame for wider burners. The maximum BTUs allowed for a gas log indoors is typically 250K. When that amount of BTUs is spread over a 60" wide area, the flames will barely clear the top of the logs, unless the logs are shorter or the burner is specially designed. Grand Canyon gas logs overcomes this issue with their uniquely designed JUMBO burner system where there is a burner raised in between the bottom logs that raises the flames above the logs. The logs are also nearly 50% larger in diamater than most other gas logs in this size. These are very high-end and quite expensive. They also offer a more affordable alternative with logs that are shorter so the flames still come up above the logs. Large log sets like these are almost always accompanied with andirons to help fill the space and create a finished look. Here are some examples.

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
