Customer Comments: Hi Greg, I am an interior designer in need of a custom-sized Mesh Screen Curtain. The fireplace has an opening of 48" wide x 30" high. Please advise if this is something you can make for me. The exact opening size between the bricks is 48 3/8" wide x 29"h. If you make your curtain 48" wide x say 28 3/4" high overall, it should work nicely. The original picture I sent you was for illustration only. Just your basic rod with your basic mesh should work. The fireplace is going to have gas logs so sparks are not going to be an issue. I would like the mesh to be such that it allows maximum see through so that the flames are readily visible. The upper surface of the opening shown with an asterisk * is masonry into which I will drill any holes needed to attach your rod or hanging arrangement. I hope this helps.
Our Comments: Here are a few mockups showing how the bar and mesh curtains would look in black and in satin brass. These can be made with a top and bottom bar or just the top bar. The bottom bar prevents logs and embers from rolling out onto the hearth when burning real wood, and keeps the glowing embers and lava rocks in place when installing gas logs.

The high-end mesh curtains have a special "Track and Roller System" that always glides smoothly and does not bind over the years like typical screens that have a steel curtain rod. Because the post is in the way, there will be two separate header bars with their own mesh.
Option #1: High-End Sliding Mesh Curtains with Track and Roller System with Top and Bottom Bar in Black.
Option #2: High-End Sliding Mesh Curtains with Track and Roller System with Top and Bottom Bar in Solid Brass with a Satin Brass Finish.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.

Photo #1: With your camera sideways, take a picture directly in front of the fireplace from far enough away to see the entire fireplace floor to ceiling like this.

Photo #2: With your back to the fireplace, take a picture looking straight out into the room so we can see the decor directly in front of the fireplace.
