Custom Screens for Fireplace with Modern Fireballs - Project #20892

Customer Comments: i, we’re looking for a good but not too expensive screen for this fireplace. We’re actually in the process of exchanging the current fireballs for a smaller unit that has a much smaller remote starter. We like a more modern feel.

Our Comments: Here are a few screens and doors that will work with your fireplace. Glass doors are best with gas fires because you must prop the damper open permanently and the glass doors help block the cold air from coming into your home.

Gas Log Warning: To prevent the burner and pilot mechanism from overheating causing safety issues, vented gas logs must be burned with glass doors open. The Modern-1 door is an exception to this rule as it can be made with a special Gas Log AirWash system that allows you to close the doors while burning a vented gas logs. Vent Free gas logs cannot have glass doors closed under any circumstances. Read more below.

Mesh Curtains

Unlike other brands that use a typical steel curtain rod that binds and becomes a frustration, hese high end framed curtain screens feature an I-Beam Track and Roller system that allows the mesh to glide open effortlessly. The frame around the opening creates a more modern-finished look as opposed to the typical single header bar.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

The left photo shows the Modern-1 in Satin Nickel with a hidden back frame. The middle is a side view showing how the doors stand out about 1" from the back frame. The right photo shows a wide back frame (not hidden) with slots for the optional AirWash system that allows air to flow freely into the fireplace so you can burn fires with the doors closed. Keep in mind, these slots are always open, so they are less tightly sealed than other doors.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
