Brass Screens and Accessories for Small Traditional Fireplace with Gas Logs - Project #20873

Our Comments: Below are 2 treatments for this small traditional fireplace, one with glass doors and several with a single panel solid brass screen. I am showing the screen with several different solid brass andirons that I have on closeout special. These are very unique pieces that were made in the USA by Stone Manufacturing. These are the last ones like this they made before they shut down.

Glass Doors

Although glass doors must be open when burning gas logs, they can be closed when the fire is not burning. This is particularly important with gas logs, since the damper is required to be propped open permanently when gas logs are installed. Glass doors help reduce the draft that comes in and out of the chimney year-around. Small fireplaces like this can have a single gate mesh backup door behind the glass for protection with an unobstructed view of the fire when the logs are burning and the doors are open.

Free Standing Screen

This solid brass free standing screen is custom made to fit your fireplace. The screen is made to overlap the opening 3/4" on the top and each side. I am showing this with several of the Closeout Special andirons I have that I'm selling for about half the original price. The tools I am showing are Antique Reproductions of tools that were used specifically with tool jams very similar to the ones you already have, so they are perfect for your application. I only have the one pair.

This special poker and shovel is an Antique Reproduction set that was made specifically for use with jam hooks just like the ones you have. These are prefect for your fireplace and I only have the one pair. The company that made these (Stone Manufacturing) no longer exists, so they are a rare find. These are not brand new and have an aged look to them just like the original tools.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
