Custom Fireplace Screens for Neo-Classical Mantel with Eclectic Modernist Expressionism Decor - Project #20836

Customer Comments: We have an old fireplace that needs a screen. The opening is 52x36. My preference is one with doors, but I am open to other suggestions. Color: I like Venetian bronze or something that matches the wood around the fireplace.

Our Comments: Here are some unique fireplace screen doors designed specifically for your fireplace and decor. Each of these would be attached to the fireplace for stability. These can be made with glass doors or mesh doors. They can also be made with Faux doors where the front doors with the pattern have no mesh or glass, where there is a second set of mesh doors behind the faux doors. This allows you to have fires with the patterned doors open or closed. The steel doors have perforated mesh and the wrought iron doors have a more refined wire mesh.

Basic Screen Door

This is a light weight screen made from steel. The doors are somewhat flimsy and unstable compared to the wrought iron, but they are substantially less expensive. These come with brackets that clamp the screen to the top inside behind the frame to prevent the screen from falling over when the doors are open.

High End Hand Forged Wrought Iron Doors

Hand forged by a blacksmith from 1/4" thick solid wrought iron with heavy duty doors for large fireplaces. Not only are these built to be used, they take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship and tasteful details. The forging process produces a unique texture that you cannot get with steel, with optonal hammered textures that can be for a more rustic applications. These can be made with mesh doors, glass doors or glass doors with mesh doors behind the glass.

Perforated Mesh vs Wire Mesh

Wire mesh is most commonly used because it is eaiser to see through and does not block as much heat. Perforated mesh is more rigid and often used in larger screens, depending on the manufacturers limitations for wire mesh. Perforated mesh is harder to see through and tends to block more heat.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
