Glass Doors for Zero Clearance Fireplace with Gas Logs and Stone Facing - Project #20815

Customer Comments: Looking for doors with a blower, removed old doors

Our Comments: Unfortunately, you cannot add a blower to a zero clearance wood burning fireplace like yours that has a gas log installed. The blower systems require a heat exchanger that sits on the bottom of the fireplace where the gas log burner would normally be. Some zero clearance fireplaces have vents at the top and bottom and a space underneath where you can place a blower, but your fireplace was not built this way and you cannot convert it.

Gas Log Warning: To prevent the burner and pilot mechanism from overheating causing safety issues, gas logs must be burned with glass doors open. The Modern-1 door is an exception to this rule as it can be made with a special Gas Log AirWash system that allows enough air into the fireplace to reduce overheating. Read more below.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium to High-End Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Gas Log AirWash System

Glass doors normally must be open when burning a gas log in order to prevent the pilot mechanism from overheating. These doors have a special Gas Log AirWash system that feeds enough cooling air into the fireplace minimize overheating and allow you to burn your gas logs with the doors closed.

Modern-1 Flat Steel Fireplace Door Modern-1 Frame: The Modern-1 has a unique design that allows it to be made without handles. The left photo shows the Modern-1 in Satin Nickel with a hidden back frame. The middle is a side view showing how the doors stand out about 1" from the back frame. The right photo shows a wide back frame (not hidden) with slots for the optional AirWash system that allows air to flow freely into the fireplace so you can burn fires with the doors closed. Keep in mind, these slots are always open, so they are less tightly sealed than other doors.

High End Hand Forged Wrought Iron Doors

Hand forged by a blacksmith from 1/4" thick solid wrought iron, these are the most heavy duty glass doors. Not only are these built to be used, they take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship and tasteful details. The forging process produces a unique texture that you cannot get with laser cut steel and there are added hammered textures that can be for a more rustic applications. These doors are often used for extremely large fireplaces because of their heavy duty solid frame and hinges. They are the most commonly ordered doors with ceramic glass for those who wish to build fires with the doors closed.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
