Metal Shiplap Wall and Fireplace Doors - Project #20800

Customer Comments: Removing the stone and installing Shiplap. I’m wondering what should be installed around our open arched ventless gas fireplace. I would be ok with squaring it off if you have a covering that would work.

Our Comments: We can provide non-combustible aluminum shiplap that can go right up to the fireplace opening along with an arched mesh door. Or, we can provide a non-combustible insulated steel surround that will allow you to have the proper clearance around the fireplace opening for combustible shiplap that you provide. You will need to check your local building codes to determine how close you can put the combustible shiplap to the opening and we will make the metal surround fill that space. I have created mockups depicting both options.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
