Customer Comments: Good morning Greg, I am reaching out because I need your help with a fireplace curtain/screen mesh. it seems you're the only one that does custom screens. We have a fireplace that's a few inches taller than the normal 36" Height. The width is less than 48" so two 24" curtains will work fine. We are using a 1/2"x 1-1/2" flat bar for the top rail and would need a curtain that hangs 42" at least. Could you supply the bare curtain without a rod? We plan on powder coating the flat bar and curtain so their finish matches. Let me know if purchasing just the curtain with the hanging rings is an option and how much time it would take to receive the curtain. We are located in Houston, Tx. Thank you very much for your help and time!
Our Comments: I can provide you with just the mesh curtains. It sounds like you are planning on mounting the header on the outside of the fireplace, which I do not recommend for this application as that will allow ashes and logs to fall out of the opening. I highly recommend using a fully framed curtain screen or a top and bottom bar to prevent this from occuring. Attached mesh doors are great for this application. Glass doors are the ultimate choice as you can close the doors and prevent smoke and ashes from blowing around when it gets windy.
All of the options presented can be made using stainless steel or zinc coated wrought iron for added durability outdoors.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle temperatures up to about 1450F and can have direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass.
Fireplace Opening: 45 1/2" W x 37" H
Each of these options would be made from stainless steel with black stainless mesh. An aluminum I-Beam Track and Roller System that does not rust allows the mesh to slide smoothly without binding, as is common for mesh curtains that typically hang from a steel rod.
Option #1: Stainless Steel Outdoor Fireplace Frame Screen with Sliding Mesh Curtains in Black.
Option #2: Stainless Steel Outdoor Fireplace Sliding Mesh Curtains with Top and Bottom Bar in Black.
Option #3: Stainless Steel Outdoor Fireplace Sliding Mesh Curtains with Top Bar Only in Black (not recommended).
Stainless steel mesh doors are an excellent choice for outdoor firelaces raised off the ground as they prevent ashes and logs from rolling out of the fireplace and provide excellent spark protection. They also make it easy to tend the fire.
Glass doors are the ultimate treatment for outdoor firelaces raised off the ground. Not only do they prevent ashes and logs from rolling out of the fireplace and provide excellent spark protection. When ordered with ceramic glass, you can close the doors while the fire is burning. This is a great feature that helps prevent smoke and ashes from blowing around when it gets windy. They also keep varments out of the fireplace when it is not being used.
Option #: Hand Crafted Zinc Coated Wrought Iron Bifold Outdoor Fireplace Glass Door with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
