Customer Comments: I'm looking for glass fireplace doors for this double-sided outdoor fireplace. Both openings are 32" wide by 24" tall.
Our Comments: Due to the thermal shock created by the difference in temperature inside and outside of the fireplace, outdoor fireplaces are best treated with doors that have ceramic glass. If you plan on burning fires with one side open and the other side closed, you must have ceramic glass as tempered glass will likely shatter under these circumstances. Ceramic glass is quite expensive, which is why I bring this up.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle temperatures up to about 1450F and can have direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass.
If you do not add ceramic glass, I recommend you burn fires with the doors open on both sides. If you close the doors with tempered glass, you must close both sides and build a small fire, you cannot leave one side open and one side closed with tempered glass, it will blow the flames against the glass and most likely it will shatter.

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable. The hinges are steel and can rust over time, so it is important to keep them lubricated.
Option #1: PW Breckenridge Aluminum Bifold Fireplace Door in Black with Tempered or Ceramic Glass.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are zinc coated for outdoor applications. Hinges must be lubricated periodically.
Option #2: Elegant Zinc Coated Steel Fireplace Door in Vintage Iron with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Stainless Steel Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details. These doors are the most heavy duty made from 1/4" thick solid hand forged zinc coated wrought iron.
Option #3: Hand Crafted Zinc Coated Porthouse Wrought Iron Fireplace Door in Vintage Iron with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Heavy Gauge Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
Option #4: Hand Crafted Zinc Coated Wrought Iron Fireplace Door in Burnished Black with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Heavy Gauge Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
Option #5: Hand Crafted Zinc Coated Scroll Wrought Iron Fireplace Door in Burnished Dark Bronze with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Heavy Gauge Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
