Doors To Prevent Cats from Going In The Fireplace - Project #20767

Customer Comments: Hi! I just moved into a home and we need a fireplace screen replacement. We have 2 cats and the one on there now does not connect on all 4 sides so they can go right in. It's elevated so I can't get a stand along screen. It measures around 47x31. Would you have any recommendations?

Our Comments: I recommend either glass doors or mesh doors for keeping cats out of the fireplace. Here are several options that can be made to fit your fireplace. Glass doors will help block the cold air from coming into your home since the damper must be propped open permanently when gas logs are installed in the fireplace.

Important Note: To prevent the burner and pilot mechanism from overheating and potential failer, gas logs must be burned with the doors open. Gate mesh backup doors can be added behind the lgass to keep cats out while the doors are open. The Modern-1 door is an exception as it can be made with a special Gas Log AirWash system that allows enough air into the fireplace to keep it from overheating.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
