Customer Comments: I need a custom Fireplace. Preferably glass. The inside width of the opening is 53"and the length is 36" and 48" tall from the floor. Don't really want doors. I'd like a sleek glass piece if possible. Black or brass is good because my kitchen handles are a muted brass. There is a hanging light going in next week that is also the muted brass. I was thinking more brass because the tv and inside the fireplace is black.
Our Comments: Free standing glass screens always look great in magazine pictures, but they are not at all functional. If you are planning on burning wood, you cannot have them stadning in front of a fire. If you burn gas logs, they must be at least 8" in front of the fireplace when the logs are burning. I have included some additional options to consider, including some sleek glass doors you may not be aware of.
Fireplace Opening: 53" W x 36" H
These are made with satin brass plated steel feet and 3/8" thick clear tempered glass with a slight green hue or high-end ultra clear low iron glass with light blue edges.

Option #2: Free Standing Glass Screen with Satin Brass Plated Feet and 3/8" Thick Low Iron Glass. Shown sitting inside the fireplace. Make To Size: 44" W x 34" H.
This spark guard features 8" deep bowed corners with satin brass plated top and bottom rails and black support bars with black wire mesh.
Option #3: Hearth Creations Bowed Spark Guard with Satin Brass Top and Bottom Rails and Black Wire Mesh with Support Bars.
The bar and mesh is a timeless fireplace screen that always works well with fireplaces that are raised in the wall. This screen features a track and roller system so it always glides smoothly over the years and does not bind like typical mesh curtains.
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Option #5: PW Pendleton Aluminum Bifold Fireplace Door in Black with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Mesh Curtains.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Option #6: Hearth Creations Modern-1 Sleek Steel Fireplace Door with No Visible Handles in Black and Satin Brass with Tempered Glass and Mesh Curtains. Available with Optional AirWash System for Buring Gas Log Fires with Doors Closed.
Modern-1 Frame: The Modern-1 has a unique design that allows it to be made without handles. The left photo shows the Modern-1 in Satin Nickel with a hidden back frame. The middle is a side view showing how the doors stand out about 1" from the back frame. The right photo shows a wide back frame (not hidden) with slots for the optional AirWash system that allows air to flow freely into the fireplace so you can burn fires with the doors closed.
Hand crafted doors take on a more natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details. These doors are the most heavy duty made from 3/16" and 1/4" thick solid hand forged wrought iron.
Option #7: Hand Crafted Wrought Iron Bifold Fireplace Door in Burnished Black with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
