Customer Comments: we have a Rumford style fireplace, and I need a sturdy spark guard that covers the opening. The actual opening is 50.25” wide and 51” tall. I’d like the guard to be 1” larger than the opening, so 52.25” wide (1” overlap on either side) and 52” tall. I prefer a simple minimalist style, and I’m open to black or aged brass details. We generally do not have any furniture directly in front of the fireplace. I do not want glass, just screen to catch sparks from exiting the fireplace. There is a 24.5” brick floor area extending from the front of the fireplace. Our large andirons extend 4.5” from the front of the fireplace, so I am hoping the screen could be at least 5” deep (or more) to accommodate. The andirons are decorative, so they can also be removed if that won’t work. Thank you!
Our Comments: Here are some screens that are ideal for your fireplace. I included a room shot from a recent customer who purchased the screen shown in Option #3, which is one of my all-time favorite treatments.
Fireplace Opening: 50 1/4" W x 51" H
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
