Customer Comments: I would like a mock up of my fireplace with gas logs that you recommend and I would also like a mock up of a fireplace door as well, preferably gold or brass
Our Comments: Here are 4 different glass door options in different materials and price ranges that can be made to fit your fireplace. Each is shown with a different gas log set.
Important Note: Although the mockups are shown with the gas logs burning and the doors closed, you must open the doors when the gas is logs are lit in order to allow enough air for the gas logs to burn properly and not overheat. The only exception is Option #4, which includes a special AirWash system that feeds enough air into the fire to be burned with the doors closed.
Fireplace Opening (Estimated At): 42" W x 34" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Option #1: Design Specialties Brookfield Aluminum Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Gold Rush Powder Coat. Shown with 30" Arizona Weathered Oak Charred Gas Logs.
Option #2: Hearth Creations Profile-4 Aluminum Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Anodized Satin Brass. Shown with 30" Driftwood Charred Gas Logs.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.
Option #3: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Modern-4 Cabinet Fireplace Glass Door with Satin Brass Overlay. Shown with 30" Aspen Gas Logs. You can burn the gas logs with the doors closed with this model.
The two mockups below feature the ultimate high end options, each with it's own unique features.
Option #4: PW Elite Brass Plated Steel Bifold Fireplace Door in Satin Brass. Shown with 30" Jumbo Slim American Weathered Oak Gas Logs. These logs are more massive than the other options and come with a special burner for higher flames.
Option #5A: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Modern-1 Cabinet Fireplace Glass Door with Gold Powder Coat. Shown with 30" GlowFire Lava Series Gas Logs. There are burners inside the logs so flames come out of the logs themselves. These are the most realistic burning logs on the market. You can burn the gas logs with the doors closed with this fireplace door as it comes with a special AirWash system.
Option #5B: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Modern-1 Cabinet Fireplace Glass Door with Satin Brass Overlay (With Seams)*. Shown with 30" GlowFire Lava Series Gas Logs. There are burners inside the logs so flames come out of the logs themselves. These are the most realistic burning logs on the market. You can burn the gas logs with the doors closed with this fireplace door as it comes with a special AirWash system.
Option #5C: Hearth Creations Flat Steel Modern-1 Cabinet Fireplace Glass Door with Solid Plated Satin Brass (No Seams)*. Shown with 30" GlowFire Lava Series Gas Logs. There are burners inside the logs so flames come out of the logs themselves. These are the most realistic burning logs on the market. You can burn the gas logs with the doors closed with this fireplace door as it comes with a special AirWash system.
A brass overlay is where they take satin brass plated sheet metal and wrap it around the steel frame. This produces seams where each piece is added. With Solid Plated Satin Brass, the entire frame is brass plated without any seams. There is a huge cost difference in production between the two, so most people live with the overlay seams.
Shown Above: Modern-1 Door with Window Pane (left). Modern-1 frame from side view. Notice how the doors stand out about 1" from the frame that is hidden. In your case, we must make the top of the frame about 1" taller so the doors will clear below the mantel and you can get your fingers in there to open them.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
