Customer Comments: I am in need of a fireplace screen that will help keep out moisture and debris. This is an outside fireplace measuring 23" across on back side, 60" on front side, 20" deep and 44" height. All stone and irregular lines. It is for a commercial building. It has been wood burning, but am changing it to natural gas with steel logs.
Our Comments: Due to the irregular stone, the door must be made to fit inside the narrowest dimensions between the stones and the gaps must be filled with mortar similar to the mockups below (with the exception of Option #10). The wrought iron doors offer gasket seals for to reduce moisture the most.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle temperatures up to about 1450F and can have direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. With that said, most gas log manufacturers require the doors to be open, so you must check the manufacturer of the gas logs to determine if you can burn them with the doors closed.
Fireplace Opening: 60" W x 44" H
Inside: 23" W (Back) x 20" Deep
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable. These doors can be ordered with stainless steel hardware and hinges to enhance durability outdoors.
Option #1: Hearth Creations Profile-2 Aluminum Bifold Outdoor Fireplace Glass Door in Satin Black. Shown with 30" Arizona Weathered Oak Kiva Gas Logs.
Stainless steel doors are designed specifically for outdoor applications and are more durable and much more heavy duty than the aluminum doors, but are 2 to 3 times the price.
Option #2: Hearth Creations Stainless Steel Bifold Outdoor Fireplace Glass Door in Graphite Powder Coat. Shown with 30" Arizona Weathered Oak Kiva Gas Logs.
These doors are hand forged by an expert blacskmith from zinc coated wrought iron for outdoor applications. These are the most heavy duty doors made with a more rugged look for those who appreciate hand craftsmanship. They include gasketed doors for a tighter seal. Option #10: Hand Crafted Wrought Iron Gasketed Bifold Outdoor Fireplace Door with Detachable Door Frame in Distressed Vintage Iron Powder Coat with Tempered or Ceramic Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors. The Detachable Door Frame is made in separate pieces that can be assemble behind the stones.
The door will be made 1/4" smaller on the top and each side from the minimum width and height to ensure the door fits inside the opening. The gap will then need to be filled with mortar as shown in the mockups. Follow these instructions for finding the Minimum Width (W) and Minimum Height (H):
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
