Customer Comments: Hello, I am looking for a fireplace screen for my great room. We use our fireplace every day during the winter and the screen we currently use doesn't prevent sparks from flying out and burning the floor. Our fireplace measures 48" wide x 41" high. I think I want a screen that is 50"x 43". I look forward to heading from you. Please let me know if you need any more info. Thanks!
Our Comments: Here are some options for screens that can be made for your fireplace. Because the fireplace is rather large and has a raised hearth, any type of free standing screen will be somewhat inconvenient to move about when tending the fire. For this reason, I recommend considering a screen with doors that is attached to the fireplace.
Fireplace Opening: 48" W x 41" H
These screens are made from solid steel with a powder coat finish. Not as heavy duty as the wrought iron options, but more affordable.
These items are hand forged by a skilled blacksmith. Heavy duty and rugged, they have a distinct charm for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and can afford things that are made to last.
Wire mesh is most commonly used because it is eaiser to see through and does not block as much heat. Perforated mesh is more rigid and often used in larger screens, depending on the manufacturers limitations for wire mesh. Perforated mesh is harder to see through and tends to block more heat.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
