Customer Comments: Are you able to do a glass door that has to be installed inset the opening? The room is not decorated/finished right now so we don’t have a specific style. I would say gold finish. Not looking for anything ornate or super expensive, just want to find a solution to the open hole to keep the cold/hot air out.
Our Comments: Most of the doors you see on my website can be made to fit inside your fireplace opening. Here are some to consider in various materials and prices. Each of these has a narrow frame for a more modern look without shrinking the opening too much.
Fireplace Opening: Unknown
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
The frames holding the glass stand out about 1" in front of the outer frame allowing you to open the doors easily without handles. This door can also be ordered with an AirWash system that allows you to burn gas fires with the doors closed. All of the other doors must be open when you burn a gas fire. The door frame can be done in a powder coat gold, or brass plated steel sheet metal overlay, or solid plated steel in a polished or satin brass finish.
This door is made from 3/16" thick solid steel that is brass plated. It can be made with a polished or satin brass finish. The look of brass plated steel is more elegant and refined than the less expensive aluminum doors.
Hand crafted doors take on a more rugged natural look for those who appreciate craftsmanship tasteful details.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
