Customer Comments: Outdoor fireplace in need of screened doors (no glass.)
Our Comments: The mesh doors for outdoor fireplaces I recommend will have stainless steel mesh with the frames made from aluminum, stainless steel or zinc primed wrought iron. The most rugged and heavy duty doors are made from wrought iron. The frames can be made to overlap the bricks. You can choose to fill the gap between the frame and the stones with mortar or leave the brick showing. Below are examples made from each of the materials, some with mortar, some without.
Fireplace Opening: 40 3/8" Top Width x 41" Bottom Width x 36 1/2" H
Aluminum does not rust like steel, so it is a great alternative for outdoor applications. It is more lightweight and less rugged than other options and the doors are a little flimsy in larger sizes, but it is the most affordable. The frame is aluminum with stainless steel mesh and hardware.

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
