Customer Comments: Looking for a curtain screen Matt black finish split in the middle, the tight (actual) size of the opening is 43" W X 30 1/2" H Deduct for clearances.
Our Comments: Mesh curtains can be made with a top header bar, top and bottom bar, or a full frame. The bottom bar and frame prevent logs and embers from falling out onto the hearth. Mesh curtains require drilling into the marble to mount them. I suggest considering glass doors for this application since they can be installed without drilling and will do a better job of hiding the prefab metal fireplace. I also suggest painting the firebricks inside using 1200 degree high temperature paint.
Fireplace Opening: 43" W x 30 1/2" H
Glass doors are an excellent choice for this fireplace. If you paint the inside of the fireplace black and have the doors made with gray glass, it will hide the inside of the fireplace when not in use (which is most of the time). The doors must be open when burning fires on this type of fireplace, so gate mesh backup doors or sliding mesh curtains can be added behind the glass for spark protection. The frame can be made to fit inside the marble or overlapping the marble 1/4" on the top and sides. There are many different styles of glass doors to choose from.
Option #4: Aluminum Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Matte Black with Gray Glass and Mesh Curtains or Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.
