Customer Comments: We have an outside patio fireplace, prefab, that we need a cabinet screen for. The hole dimensions are approximately 37 inches wide and 21 inches tall. Deep approximates 3.5 inches all around - there is some variations to that but 3.5 inches would fit. Would like something that is black, powder coated like the screen shot if possible. Our Comments: For fireplaces raised in the wall like this, I recommend having a framed door attached to the bricks rather than anything free standing that sits inside. For outdoor applications, the frames need to be made of aluminum or stainless steel, both with stainless steel mesh. Stainless steel frames are much more rugged and durable, but more costly. The examples below can be made both ways.
Fireplace Opening: 37" W x 21" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
We don't need the glass – just some sort of mesh screen that fits into the hole and makes it more professional without the feet as in the screen shot my wife found.
We have had the cabinet style at another house and it worked good – kind of framed the box. But with this one, it is preferable to have a nice presentation without framing the box.
The 37 x 21 measurements are approximate – but are very close – not sure if an exact measurement at one spot would work as the variation in the brick could cause it not to fit properly?
One screen is fine but if it opens in the middle that might be better – I plan on taking down the existing mesh. Just want ease of using it – not sure how one screen that is tight would be easy to take off to light the fire and then keep it going if it is up in the hole unless it had handles?
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
