Customer Comments: I would like an estimate for a black, glass enclosure for this fireplace Measurements: 47 x 25 1/2 x 26
Our Comments: What you have is a Zero Clerance (ZC) or Prefabricated fireplace, which is a metal box with metal pipe that is framed into your house wouth 2x4 construction then covered with drywall and stacked stone. When adding glass doors to this type of fireplace, they must be constructed in such a way that allows air to flow freely into the fireplace to prevent it from overheating. There are basically types of doors that are made that way. Please read the details about each type below and take a look at the mockups.
Important Note: The glass doors must be open on the front side when the gas logs are on. This is not a limiation of the glass doors, it is a requirement for gas logs as a safety standard to prevent the burner from overheating.
Fireplace Opening: 47" W (Front) x 25 1/2" W (Side) x 26" H
This type of door must fit inside the black metal part of the opening. You can still see the black metal on the left and right sides with this type of door. These are typcially made from aluminum and are the least expensive option. This door cannot have a fixed glass pane on the short side, it must have a functional door.
This type of door can fit inside stone, which can help hide the black metal on the sides. These are typcially made from aluminum and are more expensive than the ones that fit inside the metal. This type of door can have a fixed or functional door on the short side. I suggest paiting the inner red bricks black to help hide them.
These doors can be made to overlap the stacked stone, completely covering the fireplace. They can be made from aluminum or solid steel. Solid steel doors will have a fully framed corner. These are more heavy duty and provide a nice finished look. They can be made with a single fixed glass pane or functional door on the short side. I suggest paiting the inner red bricks black to help hide them.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
