Customer Comments: Gas ventless fireplace on our screened porch. Looking for something with 2 doors and screen, maybe a chippendale design on the doors. 36"x30" prefabricated box.
Our Comments: Doors for outdoor fireplaces must be made from formed stainless steel sheet metal, 3/16" laser cut stainless steel or specially treated wrought iron. We can do laser cut patterns, but only on the doors made from solid stainless steel. This can get very expensive. Also, the hood must be removed to install the doors, but it is important that the doors have a hood incorporated into the design as that is a requirement for your ventless firelace. You can expect some discoloration of the metal with a ventless fireplace since all of the heat will be radiated directly onto the frame. We recommend black or darker powder coat finishes for this application that will show less discoration.

These doors are made from stainless steel sheet metal that is bent to form the frame with seams at the corners. This is the least expensive option.

These doors are made from 1/4" thick wrought iron, which is the heaviest outdoor material. They are hand crafted by a blacksmith, so they take on a very rugged hand made look. For outdoor applications, a UV clear coat is applied to withstand the elements.

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
