Custom Fireplace Glass Doors - Project #20503

Customer Comments: Screen for outdoor fireplace.

Our Comments: Here are a variety of screens and doors that can be made from materials suitable for use outdoors including aluminum, solid brass, stainless steel and zinc coated wrought iron.

Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8” from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle temperatures up to about 1450F and can have direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass.

Outdoor Mesh Curtains

Mesh curtains can be made with the top and bottom bar from solid brass painted black or zinc coated wrought iron in a natural iron finish. The mesh and all other hardware is a combination of stainless steel and solid brass for years of use outdoors. We recommend the bottom bar to help prevent logs and ashes from spilling out of the fireplace. We can also add a pet deterrent channel to help deter critters from getting into the fireplace and using it as a litter box.

Pet Deterrent Channel

Pet Deterrent Channel

The Pet Deterrent Channel illustrated above helps prevent pets and small children from pushing the mesh inward and getting into the fireplace. This can be added to the F92 bottom bar, which also prevents logs from rolling out into the fireplace. When installing a bar and mesh, it is always a great idea to add the matching F92 bottom bar with the Pet Deterrent Channel.

Affordable Aluminum Glass Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for outdoor fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle the elements well when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
