Customer Comments: Few call outs:
1. Bathroom side - We are going to gut the tub and put a free standing tub parallel to fireplace. The fireplace wall will be fully tilted floor to ceiling so want to have that wall as a stand out feature.
2. Bedroom side - You see some tapes. The idea was to make it look like a linear fireplace by putting in right trim and then put a TV above it. The bottom tape (also fireplace bottom) is 26 inches above ground. And current fireplace height (black edge to black edge is 30 inches). Add another 40 inches and you hit the ceiling. The TV would be 24 inches in height.
Excited to hear your thoughts on how best to design this.
Our Comments: Here are some initial concepts using a slinding door that has black glass, so you cannot see through it when the doors are closed. This allows us to center the door on the wall and cover up the fireplace. When the doors are open, you can open one more than the other to view the actual fireplace to its center.
The TV will be way too close to the top of the fireplace opening, so I added an insulated shelf above the opening to help protect the TV from heat. There are no guarantees about this since the TV is still way too close, but it will help. This looked odd, so I added a duplicate shelf below the opening to create a unique linear look.

Option #: Diagram showing how the rail door can be designed with blackout panels behind the glass on each side to center the frame on the wall. I chose to use black to hide the panels and give the illusion that the fireplace is centered on the wall. Gray glass can be used as well, but you will see the black side panels.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
