Customer Comments: I'm looking for a screen to keep my dog away from the very hot glass since there is no protection.
Our Comments: Here are a few options. The closer the screen is to the opening, the hotter the screen will be. The free standing bowed screen will stay the coolest, but the rug will need to be moved a bit for it to work.
Fireplace Opening: 42 1/2" W x 48 3/4" H
Option #1: Design Specialties Direct Vent Glass Guard. This 1/2" steel frame with mesh screen attaches with magnets. The screen will be hot to the touch, but not as hot as the glass.
Option #2: Hearth Creations Direct Vent Retrim. Attaches with magnets, but must be removed to access the fireplace controls. The screen will be hot to the touch, but not quite as hot as the glass.
Option #3: Hearth Creations Direct Vent Layered Retrim in Matte Black with Newport Brass Colored Trim and Rivets. Attaches with magnets. Louvers are removable to access the fireplace controls. The screen stands off a little over an inch, so the screen is not as hot to the touch as the other options.
Option #4: Stone Manufacturing 1P30M Free Standing Bowed Screen in Flat Black with Square Handles and Black Stainless Steel Mesh (48” W x 52 3/4” H). This screen will be not be as hot to the touch as the other options, but will sit partially on the rug unless it can be moved.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.

Photo #1: With your camera sideways, take a picture directly in front of the fireplace from far enough away to see the entire fireplace floor to ceiling like this.

Photo #2: With your back to the fireplace, take a picture looking straight out into the room so we can see the decor directly in front of the fireplace.
