Glass Doors for Large Smokey Firelace - Project #20189

Customer Comments: Thank you for replying to my Reddit post! I even know what I would go for: simple, black, clear glass, narrow bezel, bifold, with a vent at the bottom. I'd consider a baffle at the top of the same height as the vent for symmetry. Your doors that seem closest are "basic 2" in aluminum or "Carolina" in steel. My dimensions are 48x42, and I'll send you some measurements with decimal point precision if we go ahead!

Our Comments: The Basic-2 door cannot be burned with the doors closed, so I have replaced that with the Brookfield. You are still going to need the smoke guard. If it can be moved back about 2 inches and reinstalled, you can use it along with the glass doors. If you cannot move it back, one can be built-in to the Legend door, which I also included.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
