Customer Comments: The mantle sides are exact to the opening width size. The fireplace is double sided living room and dining room. We have doors on the DR side and the LR is open with a screen. We need to have one side closed for smoke draft. We want to move the mantle to the DR and keep the LR open. We need doors designed to fit to the mantle that will be moved to the DR.
Our Comments: Design Specialties doors with tempered glass can be burned with the doors closed. However, you must burn both sides open or both sides closed. If you burn with one side open, the closed side becomes the back of the fireplace and the flames and heat are blown directly on the glass, which will cause it to break. If you wish to burn with one side closed, you must you use pyro ceramic glass, which is very expensive. We have presented both options below. You can read more about this here: See Through Fireplace Doors
Fireplace Opening: 36" W x 29" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable. These doors cannot be burned with one side closed.

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
