Customer Comments: Good afternoon, I have a double-sided fireplace that I would like to install some doors on one side of the fireplace. Reason being is the drafts and/or HVAC pull smoke from the fireplace and into the house on one side of the fireplace. The side of the fireplace shown in the pics is near the return vents of the HVAC, and when the fire is slow/low burning some of the smoke begins to come in the house rather than up the flu. The return vent can be seen in the upper left corner of the view from the fireplace.
Looking for a basic design, in black frame with glass doors that can be shut while burning to keep the smoke up the flu. Prefer 2 single door panes, vs the bi-fold.
Our Comments: If you wish to burn a fire with one side open and one side closed, you must have doors with special Pyro Ceramic Glass, which is very expensive. Otherwise, you must burn a fire with both sides open or both sides closed. Read more about Glass Doors for See Thru Fireplaces Here. Below are mockups showing these options in various price ranges.
Fireplace Opening: 38 3/4" W x 26 1/4" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable. Fires must be burned with both sides open or both sides closed.

Option #1B: (Side 2) Design Specialties Brookfield Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Tempered Glass and Mesh Curtains.
Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut. Fires must be burned with both sides open or both sides closed.

Option #2B: (Side 2) Design Specialties Carolina Cabinet Fireplace Glass Door in Rustic Black with Clear Glass and Mesh Curtains.
These doors can be made with Pyro Ceramic glass and can be burned with one side open and one side closed, or both sides open or both sides closed. Ceramic glass has rough edges, so each individual panel must be fully framed.
Option #3A: (Side 1) Hearth Creations Flat Steel Cabinet Door in Matte Black with Pyro Ceramic Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors.
Option #3B: (Side 2) Hearth Creations Flat Steel Cabinet Door in Matte Black with Pyro Ceramic Glass and Gate Mesh Backup Doors.

Option #4B: (Side 2) Hearth Creations Flat Steel Bifold AirSeal Door in Matte Black with Pyro Ceramic Glass and Mesh Curtains.
A less expensive alternative to reduce smoke is to use a bar and mesh with a wide bar at the top that works as a smoke guard. This reduces the height of the opening, promoting a better draft.
Option #4A: (Side 1) Stone Manufcturing C92 5" Wide Header Bar with Mesh Curtains and F92 1 3/4" Bottom Bar in Flat Black.
Option #4B: (Side 2) Stone Manufcturing C92 5" Wide Header Bar with Mesh Curtains and F92 1 3/4" Bottom Bar in Flat Black.
Shown Above: Pryo Ceramic Glass can handle constant temperatures around 1200°F, whereas tempered glass will handle around 450°F to 500°F. Notice the rough edges and slight pinkish tint. Unlike normal glass, the edges cannot be grinded to a smooth finish, so they must be covered by a frame to hide the sharp edges. Ceramic glass is more fragile than tempered glass and breaks into larger shards rather than small pieces, so care must be taken to ensure nothing hits the glass.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
