Our Comments: Subsequent to our phone conversation, here are examples of glass doors in a black finish made fit inside the fireplace that can have pressure mount hardware such that no drilling or alterations of the fireplace are needed for installation.

Aluminum is the most affordable material for custom made fireplace doors. It is pieced together from aluminum extrusions with visible seems at the corners. The manufacturer's tolerance for production is +- 1/8".

Steel doors are more substantial and heavy duty than aluminum doors. Because they are laser cut from solid 3/16" steel, there are no seems at the corners and they have a higher quality appearance. The manufacturer's tolerance for production is +- 1/8"

These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans at Stone Manufacturing, a very high end fireplace door company. The frame is made from an angle that is somewhat obscured behind the glass with a visible edge of only 3/16" on the sides. The two outer panes of glass are fixed and the inner panes slide left and right to open and close. The frame can be made from solid brass or steel. Solid brass is recommended for coastal applications. Can be finished in Flat Black or Gloss Black. The manufacturer's tolerance for production are very precise: +0 - 1/16"

This mockup shows how to dress up this fireplace adding some trim, andirons and top of the line gas logs for a more formal application that compliments the mantel.

These are the handle choices for Hearth Creations fireplace doors that can be made in a to match your door. There are limitations between handles that can be used on aluminum doors and steel doors. Call or email for details.

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.
