Customer Comments: We want the least attention getting steel doors possible, thinnest frame whether mounted inside or outside & a dark grey iron or matte black.
Our Comments: Here are some great looking minimalist fireplace door options for you in various materials and price ranges.
Fireplace Opening: 45-45 1/8" W x 32 1/4" H
Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.
Option #1B: Design Specialties Legend Elite Twin Glass Door in Rustic Black. This door is made with a 1/8" gap on the top and sides that you can fill with grout.
These doors are hand crafted by skilled artisans and precision made to fit inside the opening. They both have an angle iron at the top and bottom with no frame on the sides for the ultimate minimal appearance.
Option #2: Stone Manufacturing Minimal-1 Fireplace Glass Door in Flat Black. This door features 3/8" thick glass for added elegance and is as minimal as it gets.
Option #3: Stone Manufacturing HYBRID-2 Bifold Fireplace Glass Door in Flat Black. This is the most minimalist bifold door.
Hand crafted wrought iron doors take on a more rugged natural yet modern look. These doors will compliment the unique coffee table. Adding wire mesh in front of the glass softens the look by hiding the glass while preserving the function of having glass doors that seal off the fireplace. This is a unique option only available from Stone Manufacturing. See this in the second option below.
Option #4: Stone Manufacturing WI-DF1G Wrought Iron Twin Glass Door in Oil Rubbed Steel with Graylite-14 Special Dark Gray Glass.
Option #5: Stone Manufacturing WI-DF1G Wrought Iron Twin Glass Door in Oil Rubbed Steel with Wire Mesh in Front of Graylite-14 Special Dark Gray Glass. The wire mesh hides the glass to soften the look.
If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
Tempered vs Ceramic Glass: Tempered glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 450F without breaking from heat and should be at least 8" from the flames. Ceramic glass can handle sustained temperatures up to about 1450F and be in direct contact with the flames. If you wish to burn fires with the doors closed, I highly recommend upgrading to ceramic glass. Ceramic glass is $800-$2000 more than tempered glass depending on the manufacturer.
Not all doors are available with all of these glass options.
