Replacement Glass Doors for Rock Fireplace - Project #11438

Customer Comments: Current Fireplace screen and doors are 44 1/2 wide by 33 1/4 tall exterior to exterior. Interior opening dimensions are 39 1/2 inches wide by 29 inches tall. Would like screens that are on single hinges and doors on single hinges that would fold flat back against each side of the fire place wall. Flat Black.

Our Comments: We can replace your doors with a frame that overlaps the opening like your current door, or that is made to fit inside the opening. Fitting the door inside requires that you fill the gap between the frame and the stones with mortar. Although this is a more difficult installation, the finished look is more custom and seals the fireplace much better. We have provided examples of both. You will need to remove your existing doors and take more accurate measurements once you decide which door you like best and are ready to order.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
