Glass Doors for Red Brick Fireplace - Project #11419

Customer Comments: Good Morning, We are looking to replace the fireplace doors on our fireplace for a new look. The doors are original to the house (1982). We have not decided if we are going to limewash the brick at this time but it is on the project list. We currently have two other fireplaces with the same doors that will be replaced at some point. The size is smaller than the one pictured here. The opening in our family room is 41 1/2" x 29". The current doors are 46" x 33".

Our Comments: We have created a variety of mockups that should be helpful when considering all 3 of your fireplaces.

Affordable Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Items made from solid brass come in a wide variety of hand crafted patinas and other finishes. Satin Nickel finishes done on solid brass are the finest quality and will not rust like plated steel.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.
