Glass Doors for Arched Outdoor Fireplace - Project #11204

Customer Comments: Thanks Terry for your prompt reply. Attached is a closeup photo of the fireplace fire box opening and a drawing showing all relevant dimensions. If possible, I would prefer a frame that has a 1.5" - 2.0" lip that goes over the outside edge of the brick arch. My thought is that such a frame lip would make a clean visual arch over the masonry arch which is not a perfectly smooth arch because of the unique shape uni of each brick in the arch. Would appreciate your professional opinion as well as a price. Confirm that your frames come with heat tolerant glass.

Our Comments: Here are examples of doors made by 3 different manufactures. Each of them use 1/4" thick fully tempered safety glass. However, only the doors made by Design Specialties are warranted for burning with the glass doors closed. Hearth Creations and Stone Manufacturing require their doors to be burned open for coverage under warranty.

Glass doors from Design Specialties can be burned with the doors open or closed and have a lifetime warranty on the tempered glass for breakage under normal use. These are made from stainless steel with a black powder coat finish.

These are hand crafted wrought iron doors with a special zinc coating that resists rust. Very high end and durable. These doors cannot be burned closed according to the manufacturers warranty.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
