Glass Doors for Ledge Stone Fireplace - Project #10878

Customer Comments: Narrowest dimension fireplace opening width is 38 1/8 inches, widest is 38 1/4. Fireplace height is 28 1/8. Thinking Brookfield, legend, stiletto,Carolina. Old world bronze, Venetian bronze. Also looking for new log set with remote.

Our Comments: For stacked stone fireplace like yours, we recommend fitting the door inside the opening and filling in the gaps with mortar. This will look better than overlapping the stones since some stick out further than others. Here are examples of the doors you requested plus an additional option to consider.

Fireplace Opening: 38 1/8" W x 28 1/8" H

Low End Aluminum Doors

Aluminum is an excellent material for fireplace doors because it does not rust and can handle high temperatures when treated with powder coated finishes. It is also the most affordable.

Medium Range Steel Doors

Steel doors are more substantial than the less expensive aluminum doors. They are heavy duty and rugged and are more customizable because the frames are laser cut.

Bonus Door

For this application, we have chosen the Hybrid-2 from Stone Manufacturing. This door is made from solid brass and does not have a frame on the sides. Instead, they use a solid brass angle iron where the edge is towards the front. This mounts to the top and bottom and holds the hardware for the doors in place. This is a very sleek, minimal design that does not require any mortar.

Glass Door Mesh Options

If you are planning on burning anything in your fireplace, you need to have mesh behind the glass so you can burn a fire with the doors open. You can chooe between gate mesh backup doors and sliding mesh curtains. Functionally, gate mesh performs the best as the wire has smaller holes that sparks cannot get through. Aesthetically, mesh curtains may be preferred because they do not have a vertical center frame that obstructs the view of the fire. When you are not using the fire or you want a complete unobstructed view, they do not stick out like gate mesh doors when they are opened.

We are showing these options on a flat steel bifold door with a satin brass overlay and gray glass.
