Ceramic Glass -vs- Tempered Glass
If you wish to burn a fire with the doors closed, you should consider ceramic glass, because it can handle sustained temperatures between 1200F to 1400F. The standard tempered glass used in most fireplace doors can only handle about 450F-500F and the glass may break if the fire gets too hot. See through fireplaces are better of with ceramic glass, because it allows you to close off one side while the other is open to reduce smoke. If you have tempered glass, it may shatter from heat if you close off one side. Ceramic glass can better handle thermal shock, making it a better choice for outdoor fireplaces where there can be rapid temperature changes.
